Mac OSX Install

I have a lot of files like music movies pictures and all that if I put install mac osx with the grey disc will all my data be erased?

yeah. That's the idea of a reinstall. You need to back up anyway incase of a hardware failure.

A good thing to keep in mind is: A file doesn't exist unless it exists in two places.

well if you reinstall you will erase everything off of your computer. then you can put it all back on using your Time Capsule.

How would you get all the stuff off the time capsule? after you reinstalled?

Absolutely use time capsule that is the freaking point of having it.

Please tell me you didn't buy a $300 - $500 Capsule and not know what it was for 🙄

Just pop in that disk, re-install, then when you are back in and connected to your Time Capsule, just drag and drop the files into where you want/need them. They will be under backups.backupdb/[Your Computer Name]/Latest, most likely.
