Just curious how many here started their modern Mac journey with the mini's...and, if so, what Macs have you purchased (and/or sold) since then?

For me, the low price of the entry-level G4 mini's was the kick that finally led me to take the plunge (the risk was minimal (monetarily) and it ran a flavor of UNIX, so why not, I thought). Wink

Here is where I stand (going to try and get the dates right as well):

Mac mini (1.25GHz G4, combo drive)
    - purchased Feb 2005
    - sold Apr 2006
Mac mini (1.25GHz G4, combo drive)
    - purchased Feb 2005
    - sold Apr 2006
    Mac mini (1.42GHz G4, superdrive)
    - purchased Feb 2005
    - sold Sep 2006
    17" iMac (1.8GHz G5, combo drive)
    - purchased July 2005
    - passed along to family friend Apr 2007
    12" iBook (1.33Ghz G4, combo drive)
    - purchased Oct 2005
    - sold Jun 2006
    20" iMac (2.0GHz CD, superdrive)
    - purchased Feb 2006
    - sold Jun 2006
Mac mini (1.5GHz Core Solo, combo drive)
    - purchased Apr 2006
    - passed on to in-laws Apr 2008 (upgraded to 2.0GHz Core2Duo)
MacBook - white (1.83GHz CD, combo drive)
    - purchased Jun 2006
    - sold May 2008
    15" MacBook Pro (2.4GHz C2D, superdrive)
    - purchased Nov 2007
    MacBook - black (2.4GHz C2D, superdrive)
    - purchased May 2008
    - sold Aug 2008
    17" iMac (1.8GHz G5, superdrive)
    - saved from landfill Aug 2008
    MacBook - aluminum (2.0GHz C2D, superdrive)
    - purchased Oct 2008

I think that's it. (and, yes, I DO realize I have a problem) Smile

Not quite as many as you (why so many mini's???)
I bought a G4 Mini mid 2005, my wife and I both used it, it replaced a home built Athlon K6 1.4ghz running linux as our main computer.
I bought a G3 iBook (dual USB) which I sold shortly after as the airport ariel was knackered so I couldn't use it wirelessly.
My wife now uses the G4 mini, I have a MacBook (white, late 2006/early 2007 model) bought in April 2007,

Soon (hopefully) I will be getting a new 15" MBP, my wife will either get my macbook or one of the new almuinium ones, the mini will probably be sold or connected to our TV.

I bought my two older kids each one of the 1.25GHz G4's (and myself the 1.43GHz G4). My wife got the first iMac G5. All the laptops were mine initially...some them spending time with other family members before being sold.

My kids ran linux boxes before getting the mini's. Currently, my daughter has a 17" iMac G5 (the one I saved from the landfill) and my two sons each have linux boxes (one on a Dell and the other on a Thinkpad). My list of non-Mac computers would be pretty massive. I typically have a half dozen or so...although recently I've been consolidating with a beefy quad-core system and virtualization (VirtualBox is my virtualization software of choice).

I started with a G4 mini on a whim. I had always wanted to try a Mac, but was never willing to spend the startign price for one. When the mini was announced, I went to Fry's the following Moday to look with no intention of buying; they only had one in stock (1.42GHz) and none on display, and I took it home that night. So:

    1.42GHz G4 mini
    1.5GHz 15" G4 PowerBook used (replaced mini)
20" iMac G5 Rev. B (for my son going off to college)
17" iMac G5 Rev. B refurb (for my son when home on breaks)
2GHz C2D Black MB refurb (replaced PB)
    2GHz C2D 17" iMac (for my wife)
    2.4GHz Aluminum iMac (at work)

I think that is it so far.

EDIT: I had replaced all of the Windows machines in my household (for now at least). However, unless Apple adds FW back into the MB, or if they remove it from the next iMac, I am looking for something else.

Same here to a somewhat lesser degree. Bought 2 mini (both C2D) before finally breaking down and getting a 24" imac. Sure it won't be much longer before I also end up with one of the new mac books.

iMav, may I ask how you sold your used hardware? The reason I ask is because I'm thinking of selling my current MBP. Thanks.
