whats the bsod term for linux anyway? (i just downloaded ubuntu by the way, mac, pc and linux o ya)

In Linux you get a Kernel Panic.

In Ubuntu at least, if programs stop responding, they also fade to greyscale. And there is a beachball of sorts. Kernel panics are pretty rare, but the computer can lock up without one. The latter has happened to me, but the former really hasn't, except for a botched upgrade that led to the boot image being empty, which caused an immediate kernel panic at the start of boot until I fixed it.
