Hi guys! First post here! Just discovered this forum! I'm a ig fan of extending the life of old macs and improving newer ones too!

I've got a mac pro 1,1 (firmware upgraded to 2,1) running El Capitan. I has the HD 5770 video card from apple but I cannot find where/if I can get hdmi sound out of there. I already know it is possible from mac pro 3,1 and I also know the hardware can do it because it works like a charm in windows 7 and 10. I did some research here but there is just too much information an different methods, I'm just lost right now...

Does anyone knows if it has been done before? If yes, is there a guide somewhere?

Thanks

P.S.: It might be useful to know I bought an HD7970 to put in there but still waiting for it.

There are drivers available which will enable sound via hdmi and or mini Display Port. To install them system integrity protection needs to be disabled.
I workes on my 2,1 with a 7950.

Edit: my hdmi port on the 7950 is not working in macOS since it’s a flashed card.
Sound through mDP works flawlessly though.

HDMIAudio-1.1 is the version I used. You’ll find it inside the thread or google it. It should be a Dropbox link.

Hi, inks for the input! I did try the HDMIAudio. It show in my hardware pci drivers installed. But when I go to preferences, it states I have no audio output devices.

Do you have a TV or screen with speakers connected? SIP disabled?
[doublepost=1544196025][/doublepost]This is how it looks after you installed it successfully.
For me SIP needs to stay disabled.

that is exactly what I have. Pretty sure SIP is disabled but I will confirm when I go home tonight. I did try the 3 ports available on the card (2 mini display ports and the dvi) and no sound is going thru.

I'll get back to you on the SIP! Thanks again

Check Utilities, Audio MIDI Setup if DisplayPort is shown as an audio device.

Also I’m pretty certain that the 5770 doesn’t provide audio over DVI. But I might be wrong here..

Yes, the latest Security updates won’t work unless you replace some files, but I just skipped the updates.

Your monitor is connected to the mDP and it got speakers?
Open terminal and please check if SIP is disabled (csrutil status)

I'm connected to mDP with an adapter to convert to standard HDMI cable. Then I go to the television thru my samsung 5.1 blu-ray amplifier. I also have windows installed on a separate HDD and the sound works perfectly so I know it's not a hardware problem

SIP status is disabled, if you look at the file you can see it. I also included the system report:

what version of the drivers did you install? 1.1? Thats the version I used.
Please try to connect the HDMI cable directly into your TV without re-routing it through the player.
Don't really think it matters but it would be a shame if thats the problem.

The HDMIAudio used was 1.1
[doublepost=1544296541][/doublepost]Connecting directly did nothing
[doublepost=1544296596][/doublepost]Just to make sure, I rebooted in windows 10 and I am watching a movie right now with perfect surround soiund. This is so frustrating!!!

I was about to write you. I have a 5750 flying around which I wanted to test.
I suspected the card could be the problem.
Great that it works now.
