I have an original Mac Pro ,v1,1 with 2.66hz, running the latest version of Lion.

I bought 12 gig of ram from OWC and installed with no issues (6 x 2Gig sticks). As soon as I hooked everything up, the exhaust fan and cpu fan have kicked into overdrive and will not stop. The cpu fan is running at 2800 rpm and the exhaust is 2800 rpm as well. The temp of everything inside is great though. The mac pro recognizes the ram, and I ran the AHT program on extended to diagnose any hardware issues, and it found none. The mac pro works great, is much faster with the memory, but the fans running so high and so loud is my concern.

I have tried a soft SMC reset and a hard luck with that either.

I have googled the crap out of this issue and have had no luck. I even tried reseating the ram and the risers, and that did nothing. The inside is also pretty clear of dust as I look after blowing it out every once and a while.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Try a search here to find a recent thread on this problem. Bottom line is that your memory modules don't have a compatible temp monitor chip on them, so the system can't determine the operating temp and therefore runs the fans at default full speed. Return them and try another vendor- I have had good experiences with Crucial.

I ave NOT had good luck with OWC - my belief is that they are going downhill.

    Go with Crucial...
