I have an early 2008 Mac Pro and all the sudden the audio is buzzing badly. I can hear the music behind the buzzing but it obviously gone bad somehow. I switched to the headphone output and the buzzing is there too. Loud and constant, no matter how loud or soft I raise the volume.

Has the sound chip gone bad? Can I put a sound card in one of the empty lci slots?

I had the same buzz in my headphone port and the buzz would stop if I put my hand on the case. I moved my Mac Pro to my desk and it seemed to go away. Maybe see if something without much good shielding in the wire is touching the side of the case.

Does not seem to be a shielding issue. Still makes the loud buzzing.

Buzzing from both audio jacks front and rear?

On Mac Pro's the audio cable running from the front panel can get chafed and ground to earth creating the buzz. Disconnect the audio lead from the front panel and try the rear audio port to see if it still buzzes. Remove the panel and have a good look at the pcb around the jack connector could be a dry joint..
