Struggling through the morass of info on GPUs best for FCPX, very confusing. I'm not into gaming. Quadro? Titan? ATI/AMD? Don't want power issues, especially adding power supplies. I'm not sure K5000 best for the buck, but do feel confident that I can pop one in without trouble.

    2012 Mac Pro 5,1 - 3.33 GHz 6-core, 48 GB Ram, ATI Radeon 5870, Yosemite 10.10.3, NEC PA301w 30" display, FCPX 10.2.1

2x 5770 is a good upgrade. The 7950 mac edition is good to.

Thanks for the reply. A dual 7950 does look good but I'm not really willing to add a power supply. Each requires 300 watts, Mac Pro 5,1 supplies 250. Am now looking at a flashed Nvidia Titan X 12 GB from MacVidCards, should be a monster and only eats 250 watts.

Single GeForec 980 is a good option, a relativeley cheap.

I was in a similar situation. Upgraded to R9 280X with external GPU PSU (before 980GTX was out which requires Yosemite which I'm not willing to upgrade this comp to) and I'm happy with the result.
