Right now they have brand new quad cores for $1899. With much cheaper CPU, memory and SSD upgrades available now, plus an eGPU option, pricing is finally more reasonable for a nMP.

Biggest thing with this is the D300s, but still a great deal for someone looking for something better than a Mini. I have one coming. It will be an internal AST/NetBoot Server. Currently using a 2012 Mini but would really like dual Ethernet. I know I could use a ThunderBolt to Ethernet adapter on the 2012 Mini, but I use it for external storage.

That's cheaper than the same model refurbished from Apple, so I'll take it as a good deal assuming the computer is suitable for you.

OTOH, it is a discontinued model. Base model these days is 6-core with D500 but this is a quad core with D300.

I think that's a reasonable price even if it is discontinued / dated technology. It's still a nice system and it'll probably meets some users usage requirements. If I were interested in purchasing one I'd consider it (I think it's right about where, or less than, used, BIN systems are on Ebay).

That’s the only downside, but both the D300 and D500 aren’t great performers anyway.

I’ve seen E5-1650 V2 on eBay for the $125 range, meaning a 6 core for $2K. Add another $250 for 64GB ECC, and $450 for a 1TB SSD (with the $13 adapter to use standard NVMe drives) and for $2700 you have a competitive system for most purposes.

CPU prices are dropping nicely. The E5-2667 V2 (8 core 3.3) is going for as low as ~$300 which is a steal.

I got a 10 core (E5-2690V2) for about 300 so you can find some good deals if you take your time

Out of stock at the moment, but I have this adapter with a Samsung 960 Pro working fine in HS (note - need to upgrade to HS first as firmware needs update for NVMe drive support).
