MP 1,1-5,1 mac pro 5,1 black screen....

The machine chimes on power up - It has an original Apple Gt120 GPU installed in 1st slot next to P/S. there are no LED memory lights showing. I get nothing on screen to indicate where it is in the boot process. I swapped out the GT120 with an nvidia Quadro M2000 and the only signs of life was when I installed an old SSD with remnants of windows on it...The M2000 recognized the Windows screen but it obviously failed. Assuming the GT120 is dead, I dont know at what point I should see a screen of some sort when using the M2000 as the main GPU. Can anyone help with this please?

Borrow/buy an AppleOEM GPU to diagnose your Mac Pro , you are not get pre-boot configuration support with an unflashed PC GPU.

Would you say apple GT120 is at fault or could it be the monitor cable maybe?

Test the cable if you suspect it.

When you have an AppleOEM GPU you should see exactly like any other Mac of the same generation, the grey screen when the display powers on after the chime, followed some seconds later by the Apple logo, then the failed disk image (folder with interrogation) when the Mac Pro doesn't find any disks.

You won't see any of these with a PC un-flashed GPU.
