Hello everyone,

I has been using Mac Pro over 4 years, last night I shut down the Mac before I went to sleep. Next morning as usual I wake up and power on the machine but this time it cannot power on, then I google it and find same symptom like my case https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7569129 .

I press the power button I can hear a "click" sound but it don't power on, after wait a few sec I press again and hear a "click" again and the machine still off.

Any help would appreciate. Thank. you.

Had a similar issue with my 5,1 cMP last week. The LED on the front panel would light, but no tone and my UPS was reading about a third of the wattage it should be displaying. I replaced the power supply, not an easy task on this machine. It is now up and running.

My mac has similar issues. All I have to do is long press the power button to turn it off. Then a short press will start the mac. It happens to me every time I have to swap cards in the pcie slots or every time the power cord is unplugged. I also suspect the power supply but I don't want to replace it yet. I read somewhere that if you replace the capacitors in the power supply you in practice fix it

Thanks for everyone reply.

I tried remove all the PCIe cards and HDDs and replaced a new battery from the motherboard but still no power on. Unfortunately I tried to unscrew the screws that attached to the power supply, one of the screw head is spoiled, what should I do to unscrew the stripped screw :(

Thank you.

The 4,1's are definitely getting older. Two months ago I had to replace my dual processor tray/ / my 4,1>5,1 just shut down while I was using it . . but the replacement tray came with 32gb ECC ram and works perfectly so was worth it.

The 2012 5,1's will probably still have a few more years left in them.

I have a bunch of really late 2012 5,1s in service that have had power supply failures with similar symptoms.

I bought a spare power supply today if it works well I will try to replace the capacitors in the original one and post the results.

Interestingly, it's my newest Mac Pros that have the most power supply failures. I've replaced several of the 2012 supplies with parts from 2009 machines.
