My Mac Pro has been acting flakey. Occasionally it's been very slow to wake from sleep, acting sluggish for a couple minutes. It has shut down on its own a couple times. Today I got the kernel panic screen saying my computer had to restart due to a problem. What follows is the the report that was generated:

Seems like a problem with your nVidia card, what OS version, and what Webdriver are you using?

Still trying to determine the problem. I did find some corruption on the system disk which I repaired in recovery mode. This isn't the first time disk utility has found corrupted files so perhaps it's the SSD but I don't want to replace an expensive part on a whim.

Your Panic log is all GFX related, it has something to do with the Graphics card.

Since you seem to have a GTX 680 why don't you use the native macOS driver rather than the NVIDIA web driver?
This might help determine if it is a driver issue or hardware as they are very different drivers.

And I'm assuming you meant 10.12.5 on the OS version ;)

For what it's worth I'm seeing the same kernel panic, I just compared the backtrace and it's identical to what I'm seeing also. It started for me shortly after updating macOS to 10.12.5 and the NVIDIA Web Drivers 378.05.05.15f01 on May 16th. Prior to these updates I hadn't seen these panics. I've since had 4 of these crashes 05/22, 05/29, 05/30, 05/31. As you can see for me it's getting more frequent or at least that what I've observed with my limited data points.

To me it seems more likely that this is a new bug with the NVIDIA Web Drivers introduced with the latest update. All the panics have occurred for me when the system has been locked (screensaver) and I'm away.

BTW I'm using a different card (from my panic report):
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB, PCIe, 6143 MB

I'm experiencing this exact problem with the same backtrace.

    GTX980, 10.12.5, 5.1.

Has anyone found any reason why this is happening. Really frustrating problem.

Yep, NVIDIA's web drivers are garbage. And I say this as an owner of both a 1080 and 1070 in my cMPs.

Ok well, what is the solution? I am having the same backtrace problem, I thought it was my graphics card GTX 680 so I upgraded to the 1080TI and still having the same problems. This is killing my workflow and I need to be able to work to put food on the table. There has got to be a solution somewhere.

Or, put the GTX 680 back in your system and UNINSTALL the NVIDIA web driver!
Just use the native (built-in) macOS driver for the card which works great in my experience.

I'd most definitely put that GTX 680 back in your system and then uninstall the web driver fully.
I'd bet that would fix your issue.

You need to avoid using NVIDIA's web driver or hope that they fix the bug in the next release (which will be here within the next few weeks).

Failing that, yes, buy the exact card I listed above. And I don't mean any RX 580, get the Sapphire RX 580 Pulse 8GB.

Can I run my 1080TI without the NVIDIA Web Driver? My GTX 680 is toast, and the sapphire RX 580 doesnt hold a candle to my 1080TI and I need the power for my 3D rendering that I do for work.

Unfortunately not. The nvidia 9xx and 10xx series need the webdriver in macOS.

Your best bet is to wait for Apple to release 10.12.6 and consequently for nvidia to release their update in line with it. With any luck Apple/NVIDIA will have fixed the bug.

Otherwise you may need to take the performance hit and go with a more comprehensively supported card like the RX 580 model I mentioned.

If you didn't have this problem until the update, you could roll back to the previous version.
