Attempting to follow this guide and am running into some issues. Having downloaded the current windows 10 iso from Microsoft and burned it to disc, upon booting from cd I'm faced with a blank black screen with blinking cursor.
Cursory searches may have found similar problems in windows exclusive applications where you need to configure install media before burning/writing to disc. I doubt this is applicable here.

Has anyone encountered similar issues?

For reference I'm using a 5.1 cMP running high Sierra

surprised no one recommended using bootcamp. then popping in the disc.
this dvd concept is tough because windows10 boots easier on a USB drive.
just wait for better advice, give this another day or so.

I can go the boot camp route but high Sierra doesn’t support windows 10. I can upgrade to Mojave which I think might support windows 10 via boot camp. But I was hoping to have the windows drive sorted before tackling dual booting Mojave with open core.

I could try with windows 8.1 but I don’t have a license and don’t want to mess around with illegitimate downloads. If I’m correct, with windows 10 there’s an option in the installer that allows you to continue without a license

EDIT(05/11/21): Realized it won't matter if its supported via bootcamp as im looking to install windows on a separate drive

The bootcamp route is just like this:
Bootcamp assistant will create a volume name BOOTCAMP on your disk by shrinking the main volume, format it in NTFS, and MBR.
Bootcamp assistant will check your Mac model, so you can't change MBR to GPT.

Windows installer will let you choose the disk to install anyway, so you don't need to create a bootcamp volume from Mac OS.

But it's best to let Bootcamp assistant download drivers and create the USB installer for you. You will need to have a Windows ISO file accessible from High Sierra.
