Hello all! I just wanted to share with you all my tale of getting and building up my 2010 Pro :)

I bought the machine used off Craigslist several months ago to replace my 2011 iMac. I was looking for something with a decent amount of CPU oomph, and plenty of room for future growth. I found a base 2.8 quad with 8GB RAM for $650 in great shape. The first thing I got for it was 32GB of RAM, bringing the total in it to 40GB; the iMac before had 32GB in it. Next step was moving over my 500GB SSD, which lives in the lower optical bay. My external HDDs for storage and Time Machine all went inside, as did another 256GB SSD that I had around for Windows 10. All was well, until I started to get the itch for even more power.

I found myself a W3670 on eBay for $75 and sprung for it; I just installed it today and am enjoying the boost of a 3.2GHz 6-core Xeon :D

    I have also added a 4-port USB3 card and 5-port USB2 card.

Grand total for the tower and all of the upgrades has come to just shy of $1000. Considering that I sold the iMac for $500, that's not a bad deal for all of this power!

I can easily see this tower being with me for many years to come; I normally keep my desktops for 4-5 years, but I can see this one lasting even longer than normal.
