I am getting ready to upgrade the processor in my 6.1 from 4 to 8 cores. I have looked and a few videos on the process and don't think i willl have any problems. But I am a bit confused about applying the thermal paste application. I will be using arctic silver and the website says apply a single line to the E5 processor. The CdW video says to spread a line layer over the entire processor. If you have done this upgrade what method did you use?

I have used the thermal paste rice method on a previous 4core to 6 core upgrade.

Now I have a native 12core.

Doesn’t really matter. Just make sure the thermal paste amount is enough to cover the whole CPU IHS, then it will be fine.

Application method, or apply too much, etc, already proved that only has ~1C performance difference.

For AS5, you can even apply the thermal paste. Put the heatsink on, and then remove the heatsink to check the coverage. If too less, add a bit more. I personally tested this method. Also no cooling performance degradation. The theory about "creating air bubble" does not applicable.
