Am looking for an external SSD enclosure to contain the old 1TB OWC SSD that I removed from MacPro 6,1 system - I put a 2TB OWC SSD in and now I was looking for enclosures that will allow me to use the old 1TB SSD that was removed from the Mac Pro 6,1 system. Due to the special SSD connectors on these, the choices for enclosures are rather limited. What is the name of these special Apple-only (???) 12+16 connectors anyway? Thanks for any suggestions about enclosures you have used for these Apple connector SSD ...

Interesting question since OWC sells SSD kits for MP 6,1 which include ext enclosure for orig Apple SSD. Did you not purchase the 2TB from OWC?

I know about the OWC enclosures - they are a bit pricey. Looking for other solutions, especially ones that people have actually used and have opinions about.

Do you know what the connector on the Apple SSD is called? I've seen it called a "12+16" but not sure if there are others?

Thanks ...

I ended up getting an OWC Envoy enclosure but am very unhappy with it. It runs so fricking hot I can't even touch it and it only works on some Mac systems, so is not a good solution. In general, I've been very unhappy with OWC the last couple of years - they are not very supportive of their own products. I had a Thunderbolt 2 external enclosure that the power supply went bad and it was a nightmare to get a replacement. They wanted me to purchase a new enclosure rather than send me a replacement power supply. I will never buy another OWC product again. A complete joke when it comes to supporting their own products in my opinion. They accidentally shipped me a new power supply and when they discovered their mistake wanted me to ship it back (after I had already paid for it)!!! I got it to work by doing a lot of extra research in order to learn what kind of power cable it needed and then ordering some parts off of Amazon in order to make it work. Very, very, very disappointed and unhappy with them.
