Do you notice any difference in picture quality with the cable vs without it? Have you had Any issues? I purchased the 3ft monoprice extension cable but I won't hook it up until I'm positive that there won't be any issues with it attached such as a decrease in picture quality. I'm waiting for more reviews.

I own the 24" LED Apple Cinema Display along with a 2.66 ghz Quad Core Mac Pro and couldn't be happier. I love it, the glare on this display is almost non existent. It has Beautiful colors. I usually forget that I'm using a glossy monitor. The reflections on my older 19" sony vaio display was much greater. Unfortunately the Sony display caused eye strain. I have no eye strain whatsoever on the 24" LED Display. Go for it, you won't be disappointed!

Just picked up another 23" ACD.

Would love a 24, but I don't like the MDP connector and I couldn't run another one without another graphics card.

Too bad there are no MDP converters and the display is so proprietary.

Maybe Apple should have a dual-MDP card as an option, then. It would make sense for the dual-monitor folk. Besides, if Apple is going to have a proprietary display format, why not just go all the way?!

The new nVidia doesn't even have a MDP if I recall, just two dual DVI.

Sometimes I don't see where the people in Cupertino come from. I understand the upgrade cycle and how it forces people into buying new computers a la needing a newer macbook/pro to use the new ACD's. However there are too many people like me who aren't going to spend money on a new computer just to match a peripheral.

Indeed. Its silly, really - personally, in the end, I need to hook up three monitors. Which means for all intents and purposes, I need two graphics cards - SInce there are other peripherals that I need to attach (RAID, vid capture) three GT120s really is too much, if I were to use the 24" ACD at all. Which personally, I don't really intend to (as noted in previous posts, not just this thread, but others).

But for those that do want an arsetonne of 24" ACDs, they are basically forced to shove a whole bunch of graphics cards in their computer - for people that need PCIe slots for things other then graphics cards, other solutions have to come down the pipe - port teamed ethernet and RAID on a different machine come to mind.

I have to agree, I really am coming to the point that glossy displays suck real bad. I can't sit with my MBP outside unless I was to see a picture of myself in the screen.

Next notebook I buy, matte option!!!!!!

People need the female DVI to MDP. Its DVI out from nVidia, you can't go from DVI to MDP.

Oh right, I was thinking backwards.

Well that's.....sucky.

Why isn't there a female MDP to male DVI adapter or female DVI to female MDP? Seems like it would be pretty prudent to have considering all the older Mac Cards that don't use MDP.

Barring that, why isn't there a third party making them if Apple won't??

Thats the problem.......

Thats the problem.......

Well I had ordered a Mac Pro already anyway when I picked up this Air, so I took the ACD back saying that it won't work with the GTX285 and they credited towards the Mac Pro bill.

That's pretty useless if you want to use a DVI card in the Mac Pro. Although to be fair, EVGA should have made the card with MDP outs as you can easily put a MDP to DVI adapter on it.

Seems like a pretty obvious damn decision when releasing a Mac card that it work with the majority of Apple hardware. Why use the output that can't be easily converted to the Apple display input....

I'm just going to wind up getting a regular LCD then. Shame, as I like the color reproduction on the ACD and it's nice having the brightness controls right there on the keyboard.

My € 0.02:

I have the Mac Pro '08.
I used to have the old 23" ACD attached to the nVidia GeForce 8800 GT, which was good.

Now, I have put the ATi Radeon HD 4870 in this Mac Pro, and attached the Apple LED 24" Display.... NICE!!
But.. the cables really are short...

So I got this mini DisplayPort Extension cable, and an old Apple USB keyboard USB extension cable, and now it's PERFECT!! :)

I am glad I got back to ATI as well. X-Plane 9 works so much better on this card than nVidia's GeForce 8800 GT, and all my Boot Camp games are running brilliantly too.

I have the apple 4870 as well and was going to get a new 24. However I want a dual monitor setup. I would have to get a gt120 or another 4870 to make it work. Just doesn't make sense. Oh well.

Perhaps instead of graduate school I should make a DVI to MDP converter and make millions....
