Hi Jennb - I suspect (and could be wrong about this) that outside of the US Apple sub contract a lot more than they would at home - their small print on the Applecare T&C's probably reflects this. (Haven't read them so guessing here) I also doubt the sub-contractors worry about Apple's reputation as much as Apple would in the same situation. Like most repair places they probably don't carry any stock parts (even the common bits) and probably just order when needed, even if it means the repairs all take longer that way.

I think in the States Applecare is a 'no-brainer' but here in the UK, I'd still weigh up the decision a bit more carefully if it wasn't a laptop.

Get it.

It's only a couple hundted. The chances of needing a fix that would otherwise be a couple of hundred within 3 years is in your favor--these machines are complex with many moving parts, gizmos, etc.

AppleCare is priced such that Apple makes money. I would consider getting it for a laptop (more likely to need it) but I would not get it for a Mac Pro. The Applecare is cheaper for a more expensive computer (Mac Pro) indicating that Mac Pro's are very reliable (at least for the first three years).

You'd be crazy not to get apple care on apples most expensive computer.

I brought apple care a month or so after I purchased my MP. I figured if i've spend all this money on the computer what's a little more to cover it (and myself) for another two years =)

:D
