How do you think the benchmarks will pan out? I have a tinge of buyers regret after ordering the new quad mac pro and am desperatley trying to find the extra cash for the octo.
My guess is something like:
Any 2009 octo > 2008 3.2 octo > 2009 quad & 2008 2.8 octo roughly equal

But my main concern is hd video work and there I think my ordered quad will be the poor relation to all of them 🙁 but still far superior to my current windows 2.4 c2duo

I think it won't be as simple as that. While the 2009 models are likely to perform better in single- to 4-threaded applications (which are most of the programs at the moment), extensively multithreaded work like 3d-rendering is probably a bit faster on a 2008 8core machine than on the Nehalem quad.

This is my opinion, but we will see...

My guess (pulled straight out of my rear end) would be:

(right -----> is faster)

Heavily multi-threaded (800% cpu):

old 2.8(4) < new 2.66(4) < new 2.93(4) < New 2.26(8) < old 2.8(8) < old 3.0(8) < new 2.66(8) = old 3.2(8) < new 2.93(8)

Single/low threaded (100%-150% cpu):

old 2.8(4) = old 2.8(8) < new 2.26(8) < old 3.0(8) < new 2.66(4) < new 2.66(8) = old 3.2(8) < new 2.93(4) < new 2.93(8)
