Thanks for help.

Get the 2010. I have a 2008 and love it, but the 2010 is an i7 and gives you additional virtual cores. Additionally, it has faster system bus and is more upgradeable.

The 2010 model. HOWEVER, if he may upgrade the CPU by himself later, make sure it's a real 2010. That GT120 make me doubt if it's a 2009 flashed to 2010. The 2009 model use de-lidded CPU in those dual processor model, which will make the CPU upgrade much harder if he want to use normal CPUs (much higher risk than normal CPU upgrade that may cause permanent damage to the socket).

The 2010 model.
While both CPUs are quad core, the newer model has 2 hardware threads per core. This results in almost 2x faster work on CPU-intensive tasks, such as transcoding (converting to ProRes in, and producing to mp4 out). The later model will certainly need more memory. Either will need a better graphics card for improved throughput. To further what h9826790 said, the 2009 models came with GT120 standard, and later models came with something better (5770?).
