    Hi ,

I have a Mac Pro early 2009 8 core and I would like to replace its GPU with an ATI R9 290.

I read here somewhere that the power provided by the Mac Pro PSU does not cover newer GPUs.

So is it possible to buy the Card (any Card f.e this one:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202043) together with an external PSU and make it work?

How does an external PSU work, can I just connect it to the grid directly and then the GPU to the external PSU? What external PSUs do you recommend?

    Thanks in advance

R9 290 won't work in OS X with current AMD drivers.

Ok , thanks, any idea why the Price gap is so big between the two you suggested? Are you using one of them? Which?

Would it boot into Bootcamp right now? And then update OSX later with my old one?

I have no idea why there is such a large price gap between the two, nor do I have any experience with either.
