Mac Pro early gen 1.1 best video card

I just purchased a used 4870 from an apple employee for 200 and its an awesome card.
Im running snow leopard and it worked right out of the box.
Windows 7 all I needed to do was reinstall ATI driver package.

Just out of curiousity, what driver package did you install for the 4870 under Windows 7?

WD Velociraptor - 150 GB

Happens infrequently but makes me wonder if the card is a minor bottleneck - especially as I am driving my 20" ACD at the same time.

run iostat and see if your disk is getting hammered

I wonder if the reason I am having problems loading Windows 7 is because of my video card? Still have the Gt7300 in it. Does Windows 7 require a upgraded card? Any thoughts?

No. Windows will use VGA until you load the appropriate drivers for your video card. Shouldn't make any difference in installation of the OS.
