Hey wanted to start this thread to inform the community that you can indeed receive an additional power cable free of charge from Apple. This is a special order item. I got one because I needed one to stay plugged in at my house, while taking my other one with me to work... this way incase I lose one I have a backup...

You will need to contact apple online sales team, tell them that you need an additional power cable and they will set you up... 677-0919 is the serial number... If that doesn't work for some reason they will figure it out...

Unfortunately, the women I spoke with was a complete retard and she described the new mac pro as "o is that the cylinder one" I was like "Steve Jobs is shaking his head"....

Anyway lets see if we can all get some extra power cables for free BABY!

P.S. please vote on this thread

I just got one sent to me free of charge also. I called the Apple Online sales team, the guy i talked to couldn't find any part that was the power cable.

So i got transferred to AppleCare. Explained to the first guy that my current desk setup involved routing my power cable through my desk and i use my nMP when shooting at studios, so i was wanting a spare for my travel setup so i didn't have to unplug and unroute my original cable every time i moved it. He had no clue about how he could get me a spare without me sending my original one back, so i mentioned your story and how you got a 2nd cable :D. I ended up being transferred to a "senior" AppleCare specialist. He eventually found a way, i was on the phone with him when he put the order through, he even said "funny, i put it through and they won't be charging you if you don't send it back, they usually do for not returning items, guess its your lucky day". He laughed and then said the usual goodbye and have a wonderful day.

You will need to contact apple online sales team, tell them that you need an additional power cable and they will set you up... Since there is no serial number on the cable you will need to describe the cable and they will figure out eventually which one it is...

Didn't work for me. They politely told me that it's not for sale at this time and that I can use any third party cable and it should work fine. I tried to explain that it's the aesthetics of the cable and the ease of mind of having a first party cable and even offered to pay and they still wouldn't budge.

It's more than just aesthetics, it's also for cable retention. I used a generic cable in my 3,1 then my 5,1 Mac Pro for a number of years, worked fine. One day recently I was working behind the machine (while it was on) and the power cable just popped off. I immediately switched to the OEM Apple cable I had stored away, and the cable retention was far superior. Not only is it secured by the three prongs, but the cable is sized to fit the apple cut out, and that cut out along with the shape of the cable end aid in the cable's retention. Now it takes genuine force to remove the power cable.

Jude:
Thanks for contacting AppleCare chat support. How can I help you?

Jude:
Hello Ryan! Your chat is very important to us. Before we start, please know that if we get disconnected it's likely due to a system or connection issue. It is never our intent to disconnect from you. This chat is currently being logged in your case # 611876694, and can be referenced by any AppleCare Advisor (chat or phone), in case you need to reach us back.

Jude:
So from what I see here, I understand you are chatting us about your Mac Pro Desktop power cable. Can you tell me more about what's going on, please?

Ryan:
Its kind of off topic but is it possible to get a additional power cable

Jude:
Not at all! Anything Apple is what we’re here to help for. Just to clarify, you are wanting to see how you may possibly go about getting another power cable, is that right?

Ryan:
yes that is correct

Ryan:
I have to take my computer back and forth alot... it would be for convenience purposes

Jude:
We could actually defintiely look at doing that! We have a sales team that we could get you in touch with, and they could give you all the information on parts and accessories we offer that might be something you would normally buy. They are currently closed as we do only handle basic hardware and OS X software issues through chat, but if I could get your number and a time, I can get that setup right away.

Ryan:
ok cool its _________ at 2pm tomorrow

Jude:
I appreciate that very much! I have gotten that callback setup for tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. with our Sales team. I have fully notated case 611876694, so they will know exactly what you are needing!

Ryan:

Jude:
lol Thank you! Ryan, it has been my pleasure to assist you! You were just wanting to see about a spare power cable today, so I got that callback setup tomorrow with our sales team to look to get that resolved.

Jude:
Do you feel that I have provided, and started you on a path to the best resolution and answered all questions that I was able today?

Ryan:
Absolutely!

Jude:
Perfect! Thank you so much again, Ryan. I wanna wish you a great rest of your day and please take care. If there are no further questions, please go ahead and press the button underneath our chat that reads End Chat. You will also receive a copy of our chat transcript in e-mail. Again, my name is Jude. Bye! :)
