Over on xlr8yourmac.com, Mike has posted the weekend specials from TransIntl.com. Has anyone purchased any memory from them? Any problems if you have purchased memory in the past?

I have the 2.66 Mac Pro, I already have 2GB configured as 4x512mb. I am wanting to add an additional 4GB. I still haven't decided whether to purchase 4x1GB or 2x2GB.

Any thoughts on these prices or the quality of the RAM?

    MacPro Memory (DDR2 667 ECC FB-Dimms):

    2GB Kit (2x1GB): $158
    4GB Kit (2x2GB): $288
    8GB Kit (4x2GB): $568
    16GB Kit (8x2GB): $1128

    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/

Crucial is $379.99 for the 2x2GB and $199.99 for the 2x1GB.

Some folks from here have bought from Transintl before. Mixed reviews. Good price though. I think barefeats gave it a thumbs up. I would buy some today, but I want to know for sure that Apple is using DDR2 FB-DIMMs in the new Pro.

I wouldn't trust it. Too cheap for my tastes. I think MacEnforcer had major problems with them. Obviously Barefeats will give it thumbs up because the company probably pays him everytime someone uses the coupon code.

I recommend OWC, I've had zero problems with 8GB (2GBx4) on the first shipment. I had problems from Crucial on three shipments. Your choice, though.

I had very bad experience with Transintl mac pro ram. I originally purchased 4gb, 2 x 2gb dimms. When it came it was defective. I got an rma and they were going to send me more. I thought that I really needed 8gb for my video work so on the replacement shipment I ordered another 4gb so that 8gb would arrive all at once. I sent the 4gb back. Got the 8gb. ALL FOUR dimms were defective. I couldn't believe it. My mac pro had all kinds of problems from not booting to not restarting and crashes. I sent them all back for a refund. 3 weeks later I checked my credit card for the refund. They had not refunded me anything. I called my credit card company and refused the charge. They ended up refunding me the cost of the ram but not the shipping charges. My credit card company refunded me the whole thing as they found them at fault.

So to sum up. All the dimms were defective. They didn't refund my money. When pressured by my cc company they refunded the ram but not the shipping.

Sorry but they suck. I ended up buying crucial and it has been perfect.

I would stay away from Transintl.

Selling RAM that's $400 cheaper than most of the competition sounds a bit fishy to me....I don't know, I'm after quality not quantity, so it's upto the user to decide...but for me I've had zero problems with OWC and I've been using all of it's RAM during rendering, upto 8.5GB when I check the activity monitor. I've gotten zero ECC errors and I've done plenty of tests, even ran Rember on for 3 days straight on Loop.

Also I had the exact "bad luck" with Crucial. All their Micron DIMMs sucked. I had 8 in my posession (Yes, I could have had 16GB Total Ram @ 2GB per Dimm) and only 3 of them were good. I had to return about $1,600 worth of RAM back to Crucial and they refunded all the money back including shipping charges.

You are suggesting that the test results on Barefeats are for sale, then?
And will issue a recommendation for substandard RAM because of advertising revenues?

That's a serious accusation unless you have something to back it up with.

How can a company sell such high end Ram for so cheap? There is no need for me to accuse anybody, but the price makes you think twice before buying it. If "trusted" companies A and B sell it for about $900 for the same amount of RAM, and TransIntl comes in and sells it for $560, doesn't it make you go hmmmmmmmmm?

The Barefeats site needs to make money...not saying that he's doing anything bad, maybe I would do the same if advertisers payed me as well.

I have never questioned the integrity of Mike over at xlr8yourmac.com or Rob over at Bare Feats. Both of these sites in my opinion are "reference" sites and they provide unbiased commentary & information. They both have TransIntl as sponsors and they both provide links to TransIntl.

I have purchased from OWC & Crucial over the course of many years. I don't have alot of patience in having to go through a bunch of RMA's just to obtain a few "good" sticks of RAM however and I am willing to pay for quality.

These prices just amazed me and that was why I was soliciting some input from you guys.

And I know the "if it sounds to good to be true..." might be in play here.

So what you're saying is, if I post my opinions here, then it's an accusation? You clearly have no clue what you're talking about.

Accusations and assumptions are not the same. I assumed that they have cheap RAM...and that's a very valid assumption because of the price differences.
