Thanks for that, unfortunately I can't upgrade to Mojave because I'm using a 10-year old Wacom Cintiq drawing tablet and Wacom no longer supports drivers that old. So I'm stuck with High Sierra until I can replace the Wacom.

So currently my dilemma is this: While the new Radeon 580 card works perfectly with the two monitors, it's not working with the Cintiq. The Cintiq screen is showing green tinted, which I believe means it's not getting the signal correctly. The Radeon card has a dvi-d port, and my Cintiq uses a dvi-i. So I've tried two different adapters and getting the green screen on both. I tested the Cintiq on my laptop and confirmed the issue isn't with the Cintiq display itself, so I'm confident it's the adaptor. I believe I need a dvi-i (female) to dvi-d (male) adapter, but haven't had any luck with the two that I purchased. I would create a new post for this specific issue but I can't figure out how to start a new post here.

Not to my knowledge. Depends on the cards of course.
I had two AMD 5770 in my 5,1 back in 2012 to be able to run 5 displays and never had issues.

Thanks, appreciated. How would I even connect two graphics cards, though? I only have two openings for the mini-6 pin connectors inside the computer, and both are used for my new 580 card. I could physically install the 5870 above it, but where would I attach the connector?

Maybe it’s worth trying a hdmi or DisplayPort to DVI adapter?

Well the 5770 just needs one cable each so I never had that problem.
But there are several threads about the power management of more modern cards. Just have a look here or google it. Due to my my lack of knowledge about it I can’t be much of help, sorry.
I would probably try to use one of the other ports first.
Or just get a small gpu that doesn’t need additional power. It won’t take that much space either.

Thanks. I tried a dvi-i (female) to display port adapter but still got the green screen. I guess the only other option is to find a dvi-i (female) to hdmi. The 580 has an hdmi port, but I thought display port and hdmi were basically the same.

late to the game, didn't read everything. But an R9 280x supports 3 monitors. 2DVI, 1HDMI or DP. Most common config is DP and two DVI.

you can also try a HDMI to DVI cable or RX 560 or GT 120 or GT 620 or GT 630 etc

Hey all, just a followup on my graphics card and Wacom Cintiq connectivity issue. I found out the main connection cable on my old cintiq failed, so I've replaced it with a new tablet. I now have all 3 monitors connected to the new Radeon 580 and have also successfully installed Mojave OS. So, fingers crossed, everything is fixed! Thanks again for all the help here!

is the display cable hardwired to the tablet?
it's a fairly common problem that some one has a bad, wrong cable or bad adapter plug (DVI to HDMI etc)

relay happy you had a good outcome, good luck with the new tablet

Thanks! Yes, the new Cintiq is directly linked from the tablet to the graphics card via hdmi cable. I think the main dvi-i cable in the old tablet failed, because I tested it on my Macbook and had the same green screen on it when using the adapter. The only way the tablet worked was if I connected it via the vga cable, which in itself wasn't even a direct link because I had to use an adapter for it. I'm a graphic designer, so VGA isn't an option as I need correct colors and resolution.
