I've got a Quad 2.66 Mac Pro at the moment and was considering upgrading it before we emigrate to New Zealand. We're probably leaving the UK in Oct/Nov.

I noticed that the buyers guide said that an update was due soon.

Is the next upgrade likely to be a large improvement over the current range or just a speed bump?

I don't believe the MacPro is slated for an upgrade in the near future. I would suspect an update in January at the earliest... but, you never know.

My .02...

Thanks. I might get one now then. Do you know if the stock graphics card is fine or is one of the upgrade options great value? (I do photoshop, FCP, some Motion etc)

It would work ok But I would recommend getting the HD3870 if you are a professional and need this for your job.

Everything is pointing to a large improvement, but most people agree with jroller that we will see nothing before January. I don't really see the point in upgrading now if you already have one unless it isn't enough power for you.
