Following today's announcement of a new M2‌ Pro Mac mini, which replaced the previous Intel-based model in the lineup, the Mac Pro is now the only Mac in Apple's current product lineup that still uses an Intel processor.

The previous Mac mini lineup consisted of an M1 Mac mini, announced in November 2020, and the now-discontinued Intel-based model. Apple said in June 2020 that its transition to Apple silicon would take around two years, and while Apple has transitioned the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, and now the Mac mini to its own processors, the Mac Pro has yet to make the switch.

Apple's vice president of hardware engineering, John Ternus, teased at the company's March event that a new Apple silicon Mac Pro is still in the works. Currently, the highest-end Apple silicon Mac in the lineup is the Mac Studio configured with the M1 Ultra chip. Apple is rumored to announce an Apple silicon Mac Pro sometime this year, but despite speculation, the new model will feature the same design as the 2019 computer.

It seems that the MacPro will always be ahead on Apple Silicon
It will certainly have a 3nm chip similar to the future M3 ultra
Bet Apple will simply call it “M Extreme”
It means the Mac Studio will get behind that for at least 6 months
I also bet the clock will be slightly higher on MacPro

I would really like to know how many people actually need the power of the Mac Pro. If they do, is it worth the cost. I know that some people say that time is money and the Mac Pro will eventually pay for itself with time saved but since Apple has not given any significant update to the current Mac Pro, it tells me that it is not that important in the lineup. I can imagine that a lot of users with more money than me just buy it for the bragging rights.

Hoping for the Jet Black (Stealth) Edition.

Going from silver (cheese grater) to black has it reminding me a bit of my garage heater. Fitting since it still has an Intel processor 🤣

And I am not saying that the Mac Pro should not exist, just makes me wonder how many users could get by with a Mac Studio or even the new Mac mini M2 Pro.
Only difference is that those machines are not upgradable post purchase. The MP affords the ability to upgrade GPU, SSD, RAM, etc and the pool of enthusiasts are decreasing over the years. Most business’ purchase according to budget and requirements and are usually done with it. Cannot take the risk to upgrade a hardware component later on to potentially mess up valuable content created or downtime and most people here don’t understand that.
