Assuming price is no barrier, why would you skimp on the part of the computer system that you interact with the most/the number one productivity enhancement you can get? I love my 30" ACD. The 2 USB and 2 FW ports are enough for my needs, and I have no desire to hook it up to a game console. Anyway, if those kinds of things are important to you, you can always get a Dell 3008WFP, for a little less than the ACD.

At the very least, I suggest getting a couple 24" screens (normally not found in your typical B&M electronics stores such as BestBuy). Running a MP on a single small size (<24") screen is just silly, given the opportunity to multitask that the MP offers.

I completely agree with you, and When I purchase my mac pro in a few years, I definitely will go with 2 ACD, but if price is a concern, I would for sure go for 2 samsungs. They are great monitors. I also understand what you mean by having no desire to hook it up to a game console, but maybe down the road you may need that option. You could even hook up and HD receiver to a bigger 24in monitor that has an hdmi/dvi in port. I like to have the options just in case.

I think the 8 core model would be best. I assume your purchasing this machine for the long haul, and it'd be best to future proof as much as you can. Also, unless you absolutely need the cinema display(they are nice, and I too would love one) I suggest purchasing just a simple samsung monitor from bestbuy or futureeshop for 1/3 the price. You can get good quality monitors for 3-450 dollars, that will give you more connectivity choices than the ACD.

I would not recommend buying a cheap display with a quality workstation like a Mac Pro.

If you do graphics, photography, or video editing, get at least a cinema display, but better an Eizo Coloredge or a high end NEC.

Otherwise, it's like putting a cheap lens on a professional camera body.

I think the reason the 2009 Mac Pros were such a bad deal isn't the Apple Tax, but the Vista Bonus.

Apple could really cash in on Vista's problems.

Now, with Windows 7 being a good OS, Apple has to become a lot more competitive.

As I continue to browse various Canadian classifieds websites, I still see that it is full of jokers that want full retail for their used systems. The most recent example is a 2006 Mac Pro for $2000.

Here's to hoping that the new Gulftowns MPs to be announced within the next few months will help bring some of these prices back down to earth.

that video is old, and the prices for a "pc" have dropped, yet apple has kept their prices the same. plus the dell has a quardro card which probably costs a grand compared to the laughable performance producing geforce that the mac pro has.

Yes, those weak graphics cards in the Mac Pro have to go.

There shouldn't even be an option to have this low level stuff installed.
