I had a four drive software Raid 0 stripe (created with Disk Utility) in my old Mac Pro 5,1. It has failed in the sense that trying to pull files from it became very slow and in some cases impossible. I suspect a single drive failure of some kind or possibly hardware in the Mac Pro, a single bay or something.
Most of the data was backed up, but there is some that wasn't and i'd like to try and recover it.
If I mount the disks via a sata adapter individually on my MacBook Pro the disks spin up and appear ok. It could be possible that it was more a hardware failure in the Mac Pro, such as a single bay issue, I don't have the know how to diagnose and the cost of recovery is really excessive.
My initial thought and question is—is it possible to save a disk image of the 4 individual drives and then rebuild the raid with mounted images/virtual drive somehow?
Any ideas or input would be greatly appreciated.
