mac pro raid card question

Is this possible:

mac pro with 4 identical hard drives in A, B, C and D.

A has os x installed on
B has windows bootcamp
C is mirror of A
D is mirror of B

can the raid card handle two raids? I guess not...

If that's the setup you want then you don't have to worry about if the Apple RAID card can handle two RAID arrays since it does not support Bootcamp.

RAID cards can handle multiple arrays, but not all will do what you want. The Apple RAID Pro card will not. You need a card that will function under both OS X and windows via boot camp.

The reason is that the OS X can't manage an array for windows, and vice versa. So the controller must be able to operate under both OS's.

Such controllers do exist, but aren't cheap. Since the Apple RAID Pro goes for $800, you can find cards that work for this amount or less.

Some details about what you're doing would help. For example, but not limited to:

1. Internal drives only? (Typically 4 HDD's in Mac Pro)
2. Will you need more than 4 HDD'S?
3. Do you need data integrity only or speed as well?

Something like:

Areca ARC-1212/ ARC-1222
Areca ARC-1680 series (ACR-1680LP, 1680, 1680i)
CalDigit RAID card
Atto ExpressSAS R348

They each have differences in specs, that may be important to you. Internal only would be less expensive. Please note most, if not all, would require a 5th HDD for OS anyway to work properly.

The RocketRAID 2640X4 may be possible, but you would need to send e-mail. Other RocketRAID cards won't work with Boot Camp, and this is their newest product.

If you only want to safeguard data, there are other options. It depends on what is important to you. (This is where details help considerably). I apologize if this is a bit confusing.
