Ugh, I wouldn't go through with this if I wasn't tired of not being able to play games at all on my old eMac and getting kicked around on Halo because of lag. So much waiting...
This is terrible on either Apple's or ATI's part. Obviously the system was going to be in high demand. And it's not very good to have nothing shipped out at all for 3+ weeks after the announcement.
I don't understand why they can't tell us WHY the delay. It would at least give us some peace. It's not like that's hugely classified, it doesn't hurt anyone to tell us. Ugh.

Why the surprise? Apple has rarely been in the business of offering surprises unless there was a business motivation on their part. (Or a few private, harsh words with Intel on the pricing Apple was getting on CPUs)
Maybe, maybe not... or it could be simply that they can't take a series of 64K ROM boards, and use 128K ROM images on them. 😉
Oh, and I would nuke that link if I were you. It has your session info in it... which means anyone can peek at your orders.

The link you posted was from the Educational store, not from the main store. The discount stores are not expected to have links shared around, thus some session information may be getting stored differently.
It isn't safe to link from these discount Apple store sites since there is no telling what personal information is encoded in the URL... or stored server-side without the use of a cookie. Any user who clicked on that link who then logged in would 'gain ownership' of that session, and so when you went back to check, you saw their session (which was previously yours).
Also, there is usually a click-through agreement telling you not to link the EDU store...
