iPad is using a more advanced architecture,

Huh?

Three, the iPad is limited on space, while with a device like the Mac Pro I can get over 1tb internal.

WAY over 1TB internal.

ou do know that some people have 100+gb of music, pictures, and videos, which the iPad can't hold

Lets see, 100gb? My home network has about 18TB of space....and well I'm at work right now. My Windows workstation currently has a total capacity of 12TBs, and right now its almost full at 9TBs. So yeah, ipad is a no no.

quad-core next gen A5 in an Air, or desktop.

Why the hell would you want an A5 in a Air or a desktop?

ugh, why are they wasting their time updating this out of date relic!
Steve Jobs must be turning in his grave that they've not yet killed off the mac pro.

Face it, they are not needed any more.
Everything you ever need you can do on an ipad.
If you can't do it on an ipad, then its not worth doing.
Epic Apple fail!!

You want to break the world record of how many minus ones can get from posting comment.

Who cares about the look... I know, the look have undergone only slight changes since the G5 days (2003 - onwards), but it still looks amazing IMHO. Nothing compares to it design-wise.

I love the G5/Pro design, it's amazing how even after almost ten years it shows no signs of getting old and still remains on the top of my 'most beautiful Apple product ever' list (followed by the PowerBook G4/pre-unibody MacBook Pro) Jony Ive did a great job designing this.

The Mac Pro/G5 should get an award for most prescient design.

Well my needs aren't that extensive, and a next gen quad core A5 could give me a nice 11.6in Air that is pretty much fanless, quiet, and a low power sipper. Not to mention you give me OSX on it with a few standard software, like iPhoto, iWork, and iMovie HD and I am sold. Again my needs aren't that much, but I prefer keyboard and trackpad to the touch screen on the iPad; not to mention I am a fan of the old PPC architecture, and would never go PC buying getting an x86 Mac.

The A5 is good, but its nothing what like Intel Can offer.

Yes, I have power PC macs myself. But PowerPC is dead. And I don't see Apple giving up tons of compatibility and power by going to ARM.

Check the spec of a Sandy Bridge Xeon workstation from HP or Dell, add thunderbolt and you'll be approximately correct.

I really wonder how they'll put TB in the Mac Pros. Pairing it with mDP on the graphics card seems like a non-starter as Mac Pros use AMD or nVidia GPUs, both of which are not in good terms with Intel.

Would the Mac Pro forgoe a dedicated GPU to use Intel integrated graphics ? Would TB on the Mac Pro not be able to power any monitors ? Both options seem highly unlikely.

I think we do know one thing for sure. It will not have a dedicated GPU. Because then I can't think of anyone who's been gearing to buy one actually buying a Mac Pro with an intergrated GPU

It could have both. The TB monitors using the integrated GPU, and a dedicated GPU with mDP. Though that would just be daft.

Maybe it won't have TB at all ?

Seems contrary to Apple to put in TB and then when you hook up a TB monitor to it, there's no signal.

Thunderbolt card that doesn't do video (the all in one cable thing isn't a real Mac Pro issue - but having thunderbolt peripherals such as external storage would be nice). Output from the VGA card piped into a thunderbolt card via a small (internal) cable? New custom Nvidia card with an intel thunderbolt chip integrated into it?

Plenty of options...

I'm pretty sure it will have at least one and possibly more thunderbolt ports. it would be a massive fail on apple's part to try and push thunderbolt as the top of the line external interface and not include it on the pro

For me, it doesn't matter if It has TB at all, I have zero TB devices, this is more of a " I want it for no apprarant reason/now I can get rid of this stupid iMac " device.

I think it will have TB, Apple is pushing TB very hard, I could see an integrated graphics card JUST for TB. And a real graphics card for everything else.

But, I think Apple probably won't do that. And I think it will have TB

meh
I'm already over it. How long will Apple make us wait for the NEXT Mac Pro? 2014?

IS THE MAC PRO DEAD?
WHEN IS THE MAC PRO GOING TO BE UPDATED AGAIN?
IT'S BEEN SINCE JUNE 2012.

ahhh, I feel like myself again.

About damn time. Now hopefully I'll be able to upgrade my GT120 to one of the new vid cards that will be coming in the new MPs. :D

Oh please oh please let it be true. It seems like they would have killed it already if they weren't going to update. For freelance editors and motion graphic artists like me, there is no other option really. No other Mac option. They have to do SOMETHING since Mountain Lion is the first of OS X that can't run on a Mac Pro 1.1. Now would be the time. My baby from 2006 still runs like a champ, no doubt partly because she's been SO expandable, particularly with eSata and external RAID, and uh, graphics cards that are not "Apple Supported." However, it's time for a new rig, and just because I'm switching my NLE doesn't mean I want to switch back to Windows. I really don't. Whatever the new form factor of the new Mac Pro may be, the guts need to be an updated continuation of what it's BEEN: server grade memory, server grade processors, multiple options for expandability etc. state of the art, so to speak. And I might point out that the change I dropped on this baby six years ago is not a small amount even today, nor did it stop there, I've been a continuous customer of Apple's ever since, and I also became one of the "consumers of those gadgets" as well. It was all pretty blissful until about a year ago. :)

I assume you are being sarcastic...but if not...

Go try and run Houdini on an iPad, or Maya, or ZBrush, or Renderman Studio, and then get back to me ;)
