Hi just wondering what people would want in a future mac pro?
    I want:
    Blu-Ray/HD-DVD burner
    4x4-core 3.0Ghz
    16GB ram
    SSD boot drive
    4x750GB RAID 0+1

The only thing I would want would be a faster bus, Ram and that's about it otherwise this one is perfect. Blu-Ray sucks so I really don't want it, as I think were going digital like apple TV.

All hopes are on the nehalem arch, with 6 cores per processor and a faster bus and ram.
A Mac Pro like that will be mine.

HD DVD is dead. Having said that, I have a Blu-ray/HD DVD combo drive that I will be putting in my Mac Pro.

Assuming 518 days, the Nehalem Mac Pro will come out at WWDC on June 15, 2009.

Sucks for me, as I'd like it by January.

definitely! Apple would then have to make their Cinema Displays HDCP compatible and enable DVD Player to play Blu-ray.

why 4 CPUs and 16 cores? even 8 is almost overkill these days. if you need over 16 cores you should probably be working with multiple XServes. also the top Mac Pro config clocks at 3.2GHz.

the current Mac Pro supports 32GB of RAM. 8x4GB of FB-DIMMs.

SSD is too expensive ATM for desktop workstations and users want large capacity. wait a few more years.

This is my personal dream config, not what a maxed out one has.

Since the first Nehalem CPUs will likely be four-core server parts, I am holding out on buying a Mac Pro till Q4 2008 / Q1 2009 in the hope it will ship first on that platform (fortunately, my need for a Mac Pro is not immediate). And maybe by then Apple will deign to ship us a new 30" ACD (perhaps using the new Samsung panel).

That was just because Penryn was delayed.

100% the Nehalem Mac Pro will come out in January, if not earlier.

Nehalems are coming out in December, so January sounds about right;)

Can't see any point in HD-DVD, Blu-Ray would be nice for some future proofing but not if it means putting all the DRM crap in OS X for it. Personally I find DVD (especially upscaled) is good enough for a lot of older content and there isn't that much thrilling new stuff coming out.

I think we need more bandwidth, less latency and faster RAM etc. more than small increases in processing now we have 8 cores.

A few options for graphics card improvement over the life of the machine as well please! From Apple or a third party - as long as it is supported.

Penryn Xeons were not delayed, only the QX versions. Nehelm will not be out in January, WWDC 09 is a more realstic bet.

I want universal access to any third-party graphics card.

Failing that, I was Apple to create a department that does nothing except devote their time to making the biggest and baddest cards available for use in the mac pro.

Besides that I want to see 4Ghz processors and faster bus speeds.

The QX ones are what the 3.2ghz Mac Pro uses...

Apple would not release a 2.8 and a 3.0ghz CPU, then, 2 months later, release a 3.2ghz part.

Please read the threads title again, Salavat23. It says "MacPro WISHES". So please don't belittle my wishes by saying that "that's what a PC is for".

The graphics cards were obviously in the 'wish' section.

As for the 4ghz processors, I'm willing to bet that in one or two years we'll be seeing those. In the macpros no less.

Maybe you've heard of the original Octore Mac Pro...

I agree, though, if they're going to do a processor add-on in the line it won't be the same style of processor with a higher clock speed. If they were to add a processor, it'd be a sixteen core model.

I wish that we could reach a general consensus on whether or not it'll be MacWorld or WWDC in '09 that the Mac Pros will come out, but it's up to Intel.

My wish for the Mac Pro is that someone should make some cards to put in the slots.
