I have a Dual G4 867MHz PowerMac with 512MB DDR ram that I use at work. I use Final Cut Pro daily and am plagued by crashes. The program "unexpectidly quits" all the time.

I'm rather new to the Mac world, I just purchased it a few months ago... Am I simply going to fast for it or is this normal? Generally it crashes when I tell it to render a scene I just edited.

Thankfully I save often...

I have a clean install, the only additional programs are Final Cut Pro and Mozilla, no background aps are running. I have the newest patches to OSX 10.2 and FCP is patched as well.

Can you guys and gals help me?

repair your permissions. boot to the jaguar cd and go to the disk utility. also make sure you have all the latest final cut updates, because ive heard of jaguar and fcp issues.

Add RAM.

My guess is the program is blowing up because it can't get everything into physical RAM all at once. RAM's generally inexpensive right now. I don't run FCP but if I did video, I'd probably increase my RAM from the 768M I have now to 1.5G.

Sometimes a program that unexpectedly quits has corrupt preferences, too. You might want to try dragging your prefs to another folder so the next time the program launches it generates a fresh set. If it still crashes, just drag the old preferences back and you'll know it wasn't the prefs. :)

Only do the following if you do not have huge render files/or if the first variable is true you have a lot of time spare.

You could try Tools --> Render Manager then delete all of your render files.

Then

Sequence ----> Render All.
