You are using a browser with the name name, Chrome, and based on the same browser frameworks, WebKit. However, they are not the same. Chrome for Windows is much more mature than Google's port of its browser for the Mac.

Otherwise, I note that you have addressed none of the questions and none of the issues that I have raised in my previous two posts. To be blunt about it, you will have a lot fewer problems if your roommate and you get your own Internet service rather than relying on the neighbor's Wi-Fi.

I have given you all the specs from my computer including the speed checks etc. I dont know what more you want.

Just in case this is due to your hard drive is starting to go bad, you might want to make a quick check.

You can do this by opening up 'disk utility', selecting your internal drive on the left pane, and taking a look at the 'S.M.A.R.T status' at the bottom of the pane. (it will read 'verified' if it doesn't detect any problems with the drive).

Good luck.

Maybe you have provided it and I missed it, but is it just your browsers that are slowing down, or the entire system that hangs?
Are you getting the spinning beach ball a lot?

Have you tried using a wired connection instead? If so, do you get the same slowdowns?

When things start to slow down, open activity monitor, click on system memory, and sort by real memory. And "show all processes". Does anything claim all ressources? Also submit a screen shot to us.

I am guessing you either have a memory issue or an issue with your network settings. Or faulty hardware, but let's hope that isn't the case.

@Kunda

NJuul (quoted below) has some really good suggestions. The issue, I believe, is that we don't yet know whether it is an OS X problem (affecting your system overall - not just internet) or a Network problem (into which we can lump Safari, WiFi issues). You really need to go through and do some investigative work with the activity monitor, and watch what it does both when you are bogged down and when you are not bogged down. See if you can find a culprit. Or if you can't find any issues with the AM, then we can eliminate some things. I find that one does not "find" and issue, one eliminates candidates until you only have a one or two left that can be focussed on.

NJuul has a really good suggestion. Try a wired connection to the router. If the slowdowns disappear, one can assume it's an issue with the WiFi. If the slowdowns continue one can assume that interference with the wireless is not a problem.

Do you and your roommate use the same DNS servers, in your network setup? Double check that yours are accurate. Is your roommate thumping your backside in on-line games? Check the router to make sure he hasn't throttled your connection in the router settings.

But the big thing initially is that you need to determine if the slowness is system wide, or just internet wide. Do some reading on how to interpret the Activity Monitor... that will help you narrow things down. There have been some good suggestions in this thread already.

I forget, so to save me looking at your first post.... how long have you had the laptop? If it's still under AppleCare.... call them... You paid for the service (as part of the purchase price) so you might want to use them.

You got sound advice on how to go about getting help to solve your problem. You haven't provided much relevant information, and certainly didn't in your first post.

That's great. Re-read this paragraph- what are we supposed to do with the information you provided? You've described the symptoms, any of which could be due to any number of different causes.

Then provide some useful information, if that is not too much trouble. MisterMe's response wasn't supposed to be condescending, it was meant to inform you that your original request for help cannot be acted upon further without some necessary information.

You could start by posting the exact specs of your Macbook as found in Apple Menu -> System Profiler (processor, amount of RAM would probably be most helpful).

Then, you could briefly describe what you use your network for. Is your roommate viewing text webpages while you're trying to view Youtube videos, for example? Are you downloading torrents? What kind of internet connection is it?

...these are just starting points.

I did my share of helpdesk troubleshooting when I was working my way up in IT. Without seeing this computer in person none of us will really be able to properly assess what is going on. How many times have I heard things like what the OP is saying from end users, I show up and, well by golly would you look at that! You have 100 tabs open in Safari, no wonder it is slow! Or, how many "farmville" flash games do you have open, and is that pr0n in the background? Seriously, I think it's a waste of time to even ask people to troubleshoot around here unless it is an obvious problem. Not saying MR members can't troubleshoot, but this isn't really the place as another poster mentioned. Seriously, take it to the genius bar if you know nothing about computers, OP.

Just ran across another possibility.... if the slowness description is somewhat exaggerated - would never happen I know - and if the slowness is entirely within the network connection speed, it could be the type of password used to connect to the router. I just read somewhere else that, IIRC, using a WEP key can slow down your connection compared to using a WPA2 key.

Sorry, my cuddly cat is sleeping in my lap - so until she falls off I can't get up to confirm.... :)
