Apple has added ".Mac Slides Publisher" (download) as another feature of .Mac:

Present your photos online with ease

Connect with family and friends by sharing your latest memories as a personalized screensaver. Mac Slides Publisher takes your favorite photos, transfers them to your iDisk, and turns them into a screensaver that can be viewed by any Mac OS X version 10.2 user.

The subscription feature provides live updates, allowing automatic updates to slideshows. This feature emulates one advantage of the internet-connected LCD picture-frames that have been on the market.

.Mac integration is expected to increase and add functionality to other iApps.

MacEdition had previously reported that .Mac acceptance rates were "upwards of 45 percent". This number correlates to a non-scientific (of low n) survey of .Mac acceptance at MacPolls.com

I put up some slides. add

peterjhill

to see them. They are mostly plants. Who else has put some up? Post your @mac.com username if you put up some pictures.

It's pretty cool. I never thought a slideshow app could be this good.

.Mac really makes things work very well, doesn't it? I hope we'll see a lot more apps like this soon.

Just wanted to point out that a low n is not what makes a poll non-scientific. Non-random sampling makes it non-scientific. The n on that poll is actually big enough.

this screensaver thing is the predecessor the the day when your family will have pciture frames on their wall that update with the images you send them. For example, grandparents will have a frame on the wall that uses bluetooth to go to the web and get the latest pictures of their grandkids. I remember Bill gates talking about something like this. Nice job, steve.

I put up some slides of recent trips to Afghanistan and Cuba. 34 total, Cuba's in black and white...

.mac name: don_rutledge

Has anybody tried to bypass the Publisher by modifying the config.plist file? If you drop the file onto textedit it looks fairly simple. I'm not so happy with the way that Mac Slides Publisher re-jpg's my images and makes them more fuzzy but somehow a larger file size.

Does anyone know if people accessing your pictures in this way will count against your bandwidth allocation, or even if those restrictions still apply to paid .Mac accounts?

heh heh...

This is just the beginning, folks...

Web services are really cool and that's what .Mac is all about.

resampled my jpegs

I uploaded some photos for my family's screen savers across the country.

I took the time to color correct and optimize them.

Then when I used the "Mac Slide Publisher", it resampled my jpegs, increased the file size of each one and the color doesn't look as good anymore.

my .mac username is tyleronthemove if you want to see my pictures. (Not for the weak of heart, my daughter is recovering from heath surgery.)

Would be nice if someone could write a shareware program so people can upload photos bypassing the "Mac Slide Publisher" so they have more control over file size and quality.

how does one access someone else's slideshow?

Inside your system prefs go to 'Screen Effects'. Choose the '.Mac' effect. Click on 'Configure'. Enter the .Mac Membership name of the person whose slide show you want to view. (mine is "Don_Rutledge" if you want to test it). You need 10.2 for this feature.

Modem users

How does this work for dial-up users? Does it automatically go get the pic's the next time you connect or does it connect and dload them right away when you configure it?

Don_Rutledge you get the "Freakin' Awesome" Award!

Very, Very Impressive photos.

You must be a professional? Are any of these syndicated? Can we see more somewhere?

Awesome!

OFF TOPIC

just real quick.

1. has anyone seen benchmarks of the new systems...not the original barefoot tests.....something geared towards the tweaks apple made for the new systems.

2. how come there isnt a post about Jaguar.......people are already talking about it on certain music community boards but not here. wus up.

any comments would be welcome, even if you wanna just say f'off you
f'@sshole. I know how you guys love that **** here.

Here are some photos:

I'm no professional, buty here are some photos I like under the username jragon .

.Mac is starting to look better :)

Hmm, I'd love to try this out, but my computer freezes up whenever I try to select the .Mac Screen Effect. I can't even get to the point where I can click the Configure button to take a look at somebody's slide show. I've been foolish enough to try several times, and each time I had to force restart

Has anybody else had this problem? I wiped my drive and did a clean install of Jaguar yesterday, so it can't be a conflict with anything else I have installed.

Edit: Shiznit, my computer also freezes when I try to select the Cosmos screen effect. I guess I'll be avoiding that Preference Pane altogether from now on!
