Hi all,

Hope i put this one in the right forum!

I have a G4 mac runnin Mac osx tiger 10.4.10. My problem is that my software updates fail unexpectedly.

Also when i try to install mac messenger it fails also. I can only presume this is to do with the software update failure.

All my software is fully licensed so it cant be that.

Here is a shortened version of the failure report....

Date/Time: 2008-03-21 15:17:44.118 +0000
OS Version: 10.4.10 (Build 8R218)
Report Version: 4

Command: Software Update
Path: /System/Library/CoreServices/Software Update.app/Contents/MacOS/Software Update
Parent: WindowServer [55]

Version: 2.0.8 (2.0.8)
Build Version: 162
Project Name: SoftwareUpdate
Source Version: 1360800

PID: 244
Thread: 0

Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0xa4fb0680

Any help on this issue would be majorly appreciated, as im fairly amature with mac systems!

Many thanks in advance

Dan

The most common cause of this issue is corrupted Software Update caches. To clear them, go into your user folder, then Library, then Caches. Look for two folders called Software Update and com.apple.SoftwareUpdate. Delete these.

thanks 10 times for your advice.

I have tried this, and no joy.

Many thanks again though, your support is greatly appreciated!

i tried disk utility to change permissions and still no luck.

I really would like to install msn messenger, as this is the only computer online in my house.

Thanks again

there is alternatives to MSN messenger, such as AdiumX (found at www.adiumx.com) OR, there is aMSN.

Since Mac messenger seems to be purposely neglected by microsoft >.> it really sucks on the mac, so I would recommend you use either aMSN or Adium instead.

Also, am I mistaken or do you mean like NOTHING you try to install will install? or is it just mSN messenger? If its just MSN messenger... then that would just lead me to recommending even stronger that you use aMSN or Adium.

But if its ALL software wont install then you might have a big problem, and I have no idea how to fix it (sorry...>.<)

I never realised there were alternatives to messenger for mac! Thanks!

Iv only ever had any trouble installing msn messenger. Everything else seems to work fine.

But any form of update (i.e for itunes, quicktime etc) quits unexpectedly still. I can provide full detail failure report if needed.

Thanks a lot for your help, its appreciated a lot
