Mac Store Gift Card in App Store??

I got a 100$ Mac Store gift card, and am now wondering if I can use this in the App store instead? Would this be possible and how?

Was it part of the "back to school" promotion and you got it as a result of purchasing a mac? It should be good in the itunes/iphone app store as well as mac app store.
