I was just checking to see if there were any available base model Mac Studios with the M1 Ultra in the Chicago area today and Apple’s website now says that they are only available for pickup in-store on May 17th. So, it would appear that there won’t be any more available inventory in the stores until the middle of May. They have been available daily in at least a couple of stores here until today. It would appear that they are selling well and that they have exhausted their initial stockpile of units.

I was happy that I was able to pick one up on opening day, but am a little concerned that the 1TB of storage may not prove to be enough, so I may return it and order the config that I really want. Isn’t it laughable that a 1TB drive might not be enough space nowadays. I remember the days of a 20MB drive filling an enclosure the size of a two-drawer file cabinet being amazing technology. We really have come a long way, haven’t we?

Apple started doing this last night with both the Max and Ultra models. See this post (#201) and its screen captures: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...18.2337388/page-9?post=30968969#post-30968969

In New York, some stores have stock. Ones that don't now show availability dates in late April (Max) and mid-May (Ultra), not just that stock is unavailable. There's a post today in the thread I linked above (post #204) that says that both models are readily available in at least one city: "M1 Max and M1 Ultra base models are available for pickup in almost all Houston's Apple Stores for tomorrow."

If you want to purchase a base model, the change in presentation means that you don't have to go through checkout to find out which stores have the model that you're interested in. That information has been moved forward to pre-order. Personally, I'll be surprised if we're a day or two from a situation where none of the US Apple stores has a Mac Studio until late April.

3 of my 5 area stores still have the Max available for pickup today, no Ultras.

Costco will deliver a base Max to me on or before Wednesday March 30th.

I just checked 11 US cities and the base Max is available for pickup this afternoon in all of them: New York, Boston, Chicago, Miami, Houston, Dallas, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Minneapolis.

Base model M1 Max is available in 10 out 12 Apple Stores in Houston area and base model M1 Ultra in 6 out 12 Apple Stores in Houston area.

If you want to check daily Apple store inventory, go online at 8AM EDT.

Apple store updates inventory as they receive them - most inventory for the base Max version.

I am noticing they are snapped up within 60 minutes of the inventory showing (8 Apple Stores near me).
