Hi there, would a Mac Mini M2 pro with 12c GPU, GPU 19c, 32 GB RAM, and 1 TB SSD be more silent than a Mac Studio? I'm asking because I'm running a home studio and a pro mic which may record the grass growing, so absolute silence is mandatory!
I think the m2‘s are fanless. I dont know about the m2 mini pro

Hopefully they’ve done something about the noise with the new revised m2 studio

Should be a fairly easy fix ….

Just for the record. It „tested“ 2 mac studios today. Both have the annoying noise. One user could not hear at first but when I pointed it out he immediatly could hear it. So, for its 22 mac studio with the high pitch noise, 0 without.

Did you by any chance use an app to show the other user the sound? Many will be perplexed until they see the frequency graph.

No. I dont have any software by hand. But its the same noise you can find in the videos shared in this forum. There are 3/4 videos on youtube too.

So weird there are people out there not being able to hear that noise.

Ah ok. Gotcha. I know the feeling of not being able to unhear a noise coming from a 2k+ USD computer.

Yeah. Its hard.
I will call support again and see what i can do. Maybe it changes something now that i can tell them that i still could find a. Single „good“ machine

I ordered my m1 max studio on day one and was going to exchange it due to fan noise, but the wait time would be many months and i had no guarantee that the new computer wouldnt have the same issue. So i kept it with the hopes that i could maybe do an applecare return before my 12 months are up. That will be up in about a month.

Does anyone know if newer m1 max studios still have this issue?
Does anyone know if apple has agreed to replace any of these computers under applecare?

I really hate the noise, especially at night when the house is silent. It is such a nasty and metallic, yet quiet whine.

Hi. Apple is sayin that the machines work in between their noise limits.
So no chance on returns.
A friend of mine bought an mac studio max 1 month ago. Some problem. But i am not sure if its an “old” machine from an early batch

I do experience the annoying high-frequency noise with an Apple M1 Ultra 64GB RAM. It is getting louder when the machine is running a couple of hours and even on idle. I had to put the machine below my table, however you can still hear it. Is there a repair program for the M1 Ultra?

It is so annoying. I don't know what else I can do, except selling it and losing a lot of money? I do have Apple Care, though. Does it occur on the latest M1 Mac Studio Ultra model too? Has the error been fixed? I highly appreciate any replies

I've had my Studio since launch day and I've never heard anything out of it. It's been totally silent. I think some of them had different fans than others. I suspect the issue was fixed in production without Apple admitting there was a problem in the first place.
Same here. And yet we get condescending remarks sent our way telling us they don't know how we don't hear it.

Yes because you hear it forever after that. He may have noticed it later without it being pointed out, but it's only a matter of time before you notice. You can't un-notice coil whine.
Seems like a cruel thing to do to someone then, why introduce them to a sound they don't currently hear? Like making sure they experience the same issue? Weird.

It really is. I only noticed the whine on my 2013 Mac Pro when the first Macrumors post about it went up. 10 years later I still hear it... But hey, it's still running at least.

Yep, I still to this day do not hear anything out of this computer. It is dead silent. I've had my wife try to hear anything out of it (she's more sensitive to these things than I am), and she concurs. I still think some make the noise while some don't. Every time I think I hear something, it's coming from another source. My work laptop is usually what I'm hearing.

And I totally agree. It's a lot harder to figure just why though. My thought is that it's environmental, different air pressure and humidity. I live in a place fairly warm and higher humidity. (and at sea level)

Even in the winter we have higher humidity than other places I've lived, but I did hear the sound less this winter.

Can you share one of those? I haven’t yet seen one. But I have seen and replied to some saying the exact opposite. One person even had the audacity to say that his opinion was more valid than those hearing the whine since he was in the majority. I have since moved on from the Studio and got an M2 Max MacBook Pro which is dead silent.

PS: I was never bothered by the hum of the Studio but the whine was killing me.
