Is it normal for a local network between 2 Macs to be this slow (to the point that it takes 2 hours for a 700MB file to transfer)?

We always had a network between a Windows PC and a Mac and transferring files was fast (13mb/s), but since we swapped the PC with a new Mac, the network has been extremely slow.

I didn't change any of the network settings since replacing the PC with the Mac as the original Mac instantly showed up on the new Mac without any setup.

Both Macs are running a fully updated version of Lion, by the way.

OK, then. What are those settings?

    In sharing:

File sharing is checked, folders that are supposed to be shared are shared (read & write for all accounts/guest/everyone), AFP sharing is checked, SMB sharing is unchecked.

Not sure if anything else affects this.

It's using AFP for sure, as the sharing window states that 1 users is connected, which is correct. Transferring a file at this point results in jumps of 7-8MB every 6-7 seconds (780MB file = 12 min). This is 12 times slower than when doing the same from the Mac to the old Windows 7 machine.
