I have succesfully converted a friend to Apple - he has ordered a 15" PB today. However, he is concerned that some of his favourite PC apps are not available on the Mac. I have done a bit of searching around and found most of the stuff for him, but am still looking for the following;

My Tasks - a task manager. Lots around, anyone know one similar or better?
ClipCache - I think thats how it's spelt. When you copy an item and then copy a second item, it allows you to keep and paste the first item without it being replaced by the second.

A Back-up System - so just the updated files can be quickly backed-up to CDR

Commence - CRM, Sales, Marketing, Support & Contact Management Software. Commence.com is the url, I found some software but it's hard to see if it is similar or better to this.

My Business - just helps to run a business day to day.

Page Plus

MS Publisher

No name for this, but something to download and view website offline.

Any help much appreciated.

I'll take a stab at this. I might not be able to give you an answer for everything, but I will certainly try. :)

Your friend can always check www.versiontracker.com/macosx or www.macupdate.com for options other than what I list here. I'm sure there are better options ;), I'm just trying to be of assistance.

My Tasks -> your friend might be able to use iCal (bundled with his new PowerBook.

ClipCache -> It seems to me that a good substitute would be iClip.

For the Backup system, Tri-BACKUP may work.

Commence -> It seems to me that 7Contact may be a worthy substitution for Commence.

My Business -> Ermmm... that one's a bit harder because you were kind of vague. He could check out SoftBooks or if that isn't what he wants, then he could look at this list of results at Versiontracker.

PagePlus -> DrawWell or WorksWell might be a suitable substition. That's the best I could find for this one. :(

And as for Publisher, I'm sure somebody else in the same situation could come up with something better than what I could find as I looked.

Glad I could help. Welcome your friend to the greater Macintosh community. :D

Print Shop is the only program I can find that is somewhat like Publisher for OS X. I remember someone asking about Publisher and someone suggested InDesign (A pro app). There doesn't seem to be a low-end publishing program for the Mac.

I remember MS Publisher was one of the killer programs that got me to switch from the Amiga to Windows. I was so impressed with the Wizard feature to create a layout quickly, the well designed icons, and how quick the program ran. In someways, I liked the older version of Publisher better than the latest version. Publisher, After Dark, and the Microsoft Home CDs (Ocean, Dogs, Encarta, Basketball, etc...) were great programs. It help make CD drive sales back in those days. Not everyone had a CD drive.

A Mac version of The Printshop Deluxe, Version 20

I'm starting my research because I plan to order a Mac next week after 15 years with a PC. Can anyone recommend anything close to Broderbund's Printshop Deluxe for the Mac? I love it and have used it for years.

I am looking for something to open .pub docs in OSX.

Would maclinkplus open it in something good?

Help, got my mom an eMac with 10.3 and she was sent a .pub doc made in publisher.

AFAIK there is nothing Mac that will open a MS Publisher file.
Also there is nothing on Windows that will open it either, its a proprietary file type.
Best bet is to get the file onto a Windows machine with Publisher and see if you can save it out as a PDF file, or just print it and recreate it from scratch.

bad news for me!

Was cruising version tracker for a converter, no luck, maybe someone else knows of one?

edit: would be happy for anything that would just make it viewable, like a pdf doc or something.

If it's just one page or so, just open it on a PC and use the "Print Screen" button on the keyboard. Then just paste it in paint, crop out the parts you dont need and save it as a JPG or PNG image. That should work!
