Problem resolved; Graphic Converter actually dumped about 1000 frames of an animated GIF onto my desktop. The problem was figuring out that I could look at my desktop by using "open" from another program and find that out. Safe mode + patience fixed that problem.

Does the problem persist when you reboot?

It's not an OS X virus. Or, if it is, you're about to be world-famous as the first person in the world to become infected with one. :)

Is this the program you downloaded?

If it is chances are its not a virus and something else is going on. I would suggest you try to remove the app to the trash and see what happens.

If you downloaded something else entirely or downloaded a cracked app then chances are you might be infected with a Trojan or something.

If you can't do anything then restart your mac in safe mode and try to remove the app from there.

Then let us know how it went.
