Hi

My Macbook Pro in the course of the past few days has been behaving strangely erratic, effects being the cursor moves by itself, windows opening and closing by themselves, unwanted emails and apps opening and closing without command. These are obvious signs of a Virus or Malware.

I've installed various antivirus apps and completed full scans with all results confirming no Viruses or Malware detected, however the issue still remains, I'm basically unable to use the Mac due to its erratic and sporadic behaviour. Could anyone suggest what would be the best thing to do to erase this issue,

Thanks.

Do you have the same problems booting in Safe Mode?

Does a test user have the same problems?

Which antivirus apps have you used?

What OS Version, Macbook Pro?

Wow ! I have never heard of a Mac virus in the wild that would do this, and I suspect the explanation is more innocent.

What does the Settings > Security and Privacy > Screen Sharing show? Has the mac been in a TeamViewer or similar session recently?

As you have reported it this would really alarm me. If I really couldn’t find an explanation I would erase and reinstall, and load my data from backup manually, not by migration……but very sceptical that this a virus.

That’s probably not virus, but someone naughty is playing remotely with your laptop.
Even I never seen virus in windows behave like that.

Someone is likely pranking you, probably a friend or family member. Open System Preferences then Security & Privacy. Go into Accessibility, Screen Recording, Screen Sharing and Full Disk Access. Uncheckmark anything you don't recognize.

Disconnect from your network first. So that the prankster can't battle you for cursor control. When they realize what your are up to.

They're really not though, that's all nonsense you see on TV. In reality most of the time people don't know they're infected with anything unless it's Adware.

Sounds to me like something is messed up with the track pad or keyboard and input is getting detected or you're on a machine that allows remote connection (like a machine for work) and someone is remoting in.

MacBook Pro, 13 inch, Model A1278, 2012
2.5Ghz, Intel i5 dual core
8GB DDR RAM
250GB SSD
OS Mojave 10.14.6.

It all started when I downloaded some mp3 music files from a third party site, since then it's not stopped being erratic, what is the best anti virus program I should use to get rid of this Virus or Malware, if it even is a Virus?

I will try the suggested actions from othere users above and see if it can be resolved?

Check your login items (in users & groups), to see if something "extra" got downloaded and installed to start when you login to your account.

I like Malwarebytes for this kind of situation, but make sure to run a full scan with it not connected to the internet at all. (after you install) I use it on both my Mac's and Windows PC's...

In the end I reformated the drive and installed a new version of the OS, Problem solved! The Macbook is now also much faster,

Thanks for everyone's support.
