Mac + Vista mounting issues

Does anyone know why the usb thumb drive I formatted to MS-DOS (FAT) in Disk Utility won't mount on my friends Vista PC and why a DVD he burned for me won't mount on my mac... This isn't doing Mac/PC relations any good...
 
I've had this happen a time or two also.. The thumb drive usually mounted, but any content on it wasn't visible.

I'm not sure about the DVD... You've tried it on another PC?
