Are folks finding the various new macs using the Nvidia 9400M (using shared 256GB RAM) good enough for photo work? I wonder also about movie editing.

Thanks. My old 20" iMac is dying (logic board) and the ones in my budget all use the 9400M.

2-D photo work relies almost not at all on the 3-D graphic acceleration of the video card. Photoshop CS4 is one of the few consumer graphic programs that can exploit a faster card.

What about LR and PSE6. Would they be OK on a 9400m?

good enough? I have been using a G4 powerbook for photos since 04. I have processed tens–of–thousands of pics, w/a 1.33, 10.3.9 and CS(1).

The only benefit that running on the 9600m will give you is the the extra RAM as it is not being used by graphics card/9400m. I find my system to be a bit quicker handling Aperture on the 9600m vs. the 9400m, however the 9400m is fine.

I edit my Nikon Raw images on my MacBook Air all the time, it doesn't even tax the notebook. I use PSE6.

I wonder how will the dual GPU affect performance once Snow Leopard arrives? Too bad we can't run 9400 and 9600 together or able to switch GPUs without restarting.
