mac webcams

So I know the iSight is amazing, incredible quality, great microphone, etc etc. But I don't have $129, or even $100 to buy it off ebay. I know for the *other* platform you can get webcams for seriously cheap, but are there any even remotely decent webcams available for mac? That would be really useful. And I mean, like, sub-$50, though maybe a bit higher. Any ideas? Thanks!

i think some logitech webcams may work, you should probably check out their website to see what cams have mac drivers

and i know that there are other firewire webcams out there for macs as well

i would look on either macaddict.com or macworld.com for reviews to see which ones are the best for the mac platform

You would think in this day and age you would be able to plug in almost any webcam and it would work but they don't. PlaceofDis is right, if you got the logitech route make sure they say it's mac compatible.

This page has a list of Logitech webcams, however the cheapest one that is listed as being Mac compatible is this one for $80. I've used a QuickCam orbit ($129) and it worked fine on my Powerbook, the face tracking feature is especially cool. Unfortunately, it's just as expensive as an iSight. I'm sure there are other companies out there making webcams that will work on a Mac, try a google search to find more I guess. I found this page which lists webcam hardware including whether or not said hardware is Mac compatible. Finally, there's a project on Sourceforge for a driver set for various USB webcams that are are not "officially" supported for Mac. The page for that project is located here. Cool, I got my non-compatiable webcam to at least show up on my mac.
