i've currently got webspace with my own domain name, and i really like it. however, i'm starting to consider switching to .mac for the pure convenience it offers. i did the 60 day trial of .mac and i like it - but i don't want the url to a web gallery to be something crazy like gallery.mac.com/kevindosi/12309812 - what is that? right now, it's more something like kevindosi.com/pictures. i like that. nice and simple. is there any way to use domains like this with .mac? for the price you pay, i don't see why not.
i'm already paying the same price for 10x the webspace with more supported features, but .mac would be pretty sweet. i just hate those nasty long urls.

Yep, using it right now.

Just go to Account Settings and Choose "Personal Domain".

It will prompt you for your Domain Name and give you the IP Address that you will need to give to your registrar so that your URL will point to the site that Apple is hosting for you.

Looks like everything except mail from what I can tell. Galleries are included.

You still need the Number at the end, though but everything else is dropped.

I remember considering this option, but then decided against that. Firstly, their servers seem to be unreliable (email refuses to connect quite often) and slow. And then I read somewhere that you can only use iWeb to upload sites.

My webhost would lose my mail accounts if I switched my domain name completely to .Mac, and I really didn't want that.

As much as like my @mac.com address, just using my domain (my name) is so much easier for people to remember.

So I just set up a forward instead.

Here, go to www.scottcoates.com and see how it bumps you over to the proper .Mac domain.

You can click on the link for my photo gallery right from there, but if you're savvy enough, you can also just go to http://photos.scottcoates.com... see how that jumps you to my .Mac web gallery without having to get people to remember (& type in) "http://gallery.mac.com/scott.coates" .

Easy peasy, japanesey! :D

You can upload sites any way you want by dumping files in /Web on the iDisk.
