I gave away both my PeeCees when I finally switched.
Since have been thinking about (dare I even think about it), the day that my beloved 17" PB encounters problems...

I have almost been tempted to buy an iMac just for backup / desktop / storage / and in case I ever have hiccups on my PB.
I don't think I could go without a Mac at home now for much more than a week or so. I did go to the Caribbean in April which was away for three weeks.. but being on holiday doesn't count I figure. Would be tough to be in familiar surroundings at home without a Mac to tinker with.

Hey, now there's a good use for those stickers...ha!

I had my Powerbook with me on the first day, and the IT department was very amused and had fun setting it up. Had trouble with Airport/wifi connection, but with an Ethernet cable it was networked beautifully.

I'm in marketing, and I subscribe to a lot of marketing-related RSS feeds and podcasts - was happily setting everything up and getting productive with iCal and whatnot, until I got shut down. It only took a few hours before someone came by and said that's not allowed. :(

I don't get it. I haven't had very much experience in large corporate offices, but I have heard numerous times of this kind of stuff happening: IT departments forbidding the use of Macs. -- Why? I don't understand? And what gives them the right to tell you what personal computer you can use so long as you're not asking them for tech support? Could somebody please explain the purpose behind this policy?

I have no idea, but it might be a policy that bans employees using there own machines, not those supplied by the company. It could be a security thing, then don't want corporate data to make their way onto non-company owned machines, but as I say, I have no idea - I don't work in the corporate world.

Two comments. First, I work in Marketing for a very very large construction firm and they despise the use of macs  I still bring mine in and use it anyways from time to time and I just make sure I name the computer something that will make it blend into the corporate network tree. It has worked so far so I'm not about to stop now haha.

Second, how is the mac mini? I just got a 14" iBook today to replace a bum string of powerbooks I kept receiving. I have a 20" Dell widescreen display and I don't really have a use for it at the moment. I was either going to sell it and just use the iBook's display or get a mini to give it something to do. I would love to know how it compares to your powerbook as far as speed goes. Thanks!

I like it so far. It is slightly slower than my Powerbook and sometimes Expose is a little choppy but I put that down only have 512mb ram (my PB has 1.5 GB) and perhaps because it only has 32mb vram. I have it plugged into a Dell 20" LCD which is nice. It is certainly a workable machine for email/browsing/itunes etc.

I think I will eventually upgrade the RAM to 1gb.

Oh the joy of having more then one Mac in the house!

I'd rather not use a computer then have to use Windows... Yep.

You know, I used Windows for years and years, and while I hated it, it was still not so bad that I stopped using computers. Now that I've switched, I can honestly say that if my Macs were taken away, I'd simply stop using the computer rather than use Windows again. It's that annoying to me. No internet access might be a little annoying, I'd probably stick linux on some old PC for internet only.
