My Mac worked fine last night. Today it goes to white apple screen with the spinner. I hear a cd turning. Then it goes black. I have tried command r. Nothing. I have unplugged and used a new outlet. Same result. Of course Apple support is not available today. Any ideas? Thanks.

Boot with the right mouse button down to eject the CD/DVD while booting to get that Cd/DBVD out. Then if it fails to boot again try the Recovery Mode and test out your startup drive and repair it and its permissions. See if this helps.

Make sure that it is charged. And while you are starting it up hold down Command s until the command line pops up and post here any errors you see.

If it says invalid node structure... you may need help from a professional. But it will be fixable.

also it will say something about /sbin/fsck -fy... type that in and tell me what it says
