I use almost all of the .Mac options. Backup, iWeb posting, email, etc. Individually, you can piece them together for cheaper. You can find more powerful apps for the same money. However, for the simple integrated use, I give this a big thumbs up.

Also, I have never paid more that $45 for individual on Ebay and recently upgraded to a family version for $82 also on EBay.

same here. i use mail, iweb, sync, adressbook, idisk. the overall convenience is o.k. i pay around $70 a year. i recently bought another GB for $49 though, ouch.
reliability of mail is not good however. it's down too often.

and in the moment there is too much going on in my life to worry about how to piece some web services together.

it's just that .mac could be much better for the money. it's not that horrible but it's also not great.

HELL. NO.

You're basically paying $100 a year so you can have an e-mail address that ends in "@mac.com" which is just stupid.

Even Steve Jobs admits that they need to work on .Mac! It's a horrible value and needs some serious attention or a serious price cut.

Ah, but not everything is about monetary value.

Your perception of value will not be the same as others. For you the perceived lack of monetary value is significant as evidenced by your rather strong verbalization of same, however, there are others for whom value is the perceived cachet of have the .mac address and its simplicity without looking for something cheaper or more feature laden.

For some .mac is fine and if they are willing to pay the going rate we should not be critical of that.

You may not find .mac worthy of your investment but categorizing others use of .mac as “stupid” based on your perception of its monetary value is somewhat overreaching (IMHO).

Cheers,

Milk 'em dry Steve

Well, I always thought why everything that has to do is a rip off and people are thankful for it.

- Macs overpriced
- Software 1/1000 of Windows software available and very expensive :(
- .MAC = the master rip off for the truly faithful  - try Google and get your calander and e-mail for free
- iMAC = enviromental waste (almost everybody has a TFT screen - why not build a MAC mini with a decent grafic card and do something for the environment - there's a concept -- by the way I know you can waste electricity using two monitors)
- Some better Mac sites charge premium for normal web information

Why are we so stupid and let Steve rip us off? Well, maybe he needs the money since he makes only 1$ a year. haha - :p

Now it's your turn. Rip me apart. But use facts please ;) ;) ;)
